The British Embassy in Tbilisi has called on the Georgian government to strengthen measures to prevent Russian oil supplies using the so-called "shadow fleet." The diplomatic mission believes that these schemes facilitate sanctions evasion and pose a threat to maritime security and the environment.
Georgia's new president is not against EU membership, but with the preservation of national values
There is no point in Georgia joining the EU, giving up its values, language and faith. This was stated by the newly elected President of Georgia, Mikheil Kavelashvili.
"If we do not have our values and character, culture, language, faith, defense of the homeland - what is the point of joining any organization? We want to become members of the EU as we are, we do not refuse integration," Kavelashvili explained.
At the same time, he noted that the Georgian authorities are open to discussion on any issues, "but there is no reciprocal desire to hold a discussion from the West, there is only criticism."
The new president of Georgia also guaranteed that he will not conflict with the executive branch, i.e. with the ruling party "Georgian Dream" that nominated him. He supported the actions of special forces and police at protest rallies, stating that they are defending the state.
“December 14, 2023 – Georgia received the status of a candidate for the EU. Over the course of a year, one-party rulers have taken all possible steps against the path to the EU in order to finally interrupt it. Law after law, Georgia is being turned into Russia. But the Georgians will not give up!” Zurabishvili said.
