The UN Human Rights Committee has suspended the extradition of Chechen native Mansur Movlaev from Kazakhstan to Russia. This was announced by Fatima Suleimanova, press secretary of the Chechen political organization "United Force."
Mansur Movlaev, who was wanted in Chechnya, was detained in Kazakhstan in May 2025 and placed under extradition arrest. Despite having received asylum seeker status, the country's Prosecutor General's Office recently approved his deportation. Human rights activists fear that if extradited, Movlaev will face torture and extrajudicial execution in his home country.
In Russia, Mansur Movlaev is accused of financing extremism, but the opposition movement "Adat" believes the case is fabricated. The young man had previously served time on drug trafficking charges, which he claimed were politically motivated. Furthermore, Movlaev claimed his brothers were kidnapped and tortured by police in the Urus-Martan district of Chechnya. After his release in 2022, he fled to Kyrgyzstan, where he was convicted of illegal border crossing and deported, eventually ending up in Kazakhstan.
