European Union Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas stated that the Georgian government's current policies are not aligned with the European Union's direction. Arriving at the EU summit in Brussels, she emphasized the EU's support for the Georgian people but expressed disagreement with the Georgian government's actions. Kallas stated that the country's leadership is leading Georgia "in the wrong direction," which is hindering the process of European integration.
A court in Stavropol sentenced four more participants in the pogrom at Makhachkala airport to 10 years in prison. Arsen Arbuliev, Malik Aliyev, Saidapandi Abdulazizov and Nazhmudin Abakarov were found guilty of mass riots, armed resistance and the use of violence against government officials.
According to investigators, the defendants committed the crime because of "national and religious hatred and enmity towards Israeli citizens." This refers to the action at the Uytash airport, which took place in Makhachkala after the arrival of a plane from Israel. The Ministry of Internal Affairs for Dagestan reported that 1,500 people took part in it, and criminal cases were opened against 142. More than 80 people received real terms in the "airport case." Earlier, human rights activists pointed out the bias of the trial: among the accused there could have been those who did not participate in the storming of the airport. Relatives of many of the defendants said that they considered the sentences too harsh and unfair. 11 prosecution witnesses were unable to identify the defendants accused of the pogrom at the Makhachkala airport after the arrival of a flight from Israel.
Recall that on October 29, 2023, hundreds of people broke into the Makhachkala airport, trying to find passengers of a transit flight from Tel Aviv. Those gathered spoke out against Israel's actions in Palestine.
