Pashinyan and Aliyev held five-hour talks in the UAE

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan held talks in Abu Dhabi. The meeting lasted about five hours with breaks.

According to media reports, Azerbaijan was the initiator of the idea to hold the meeting in this place. At the same time, the country's authorities emphasized that they do not need mediators or the participation of third parties.

Previously, Armenian-Azerbaijani negotiations on concluding a peace treaty most often took place in Moscow with the participation of the Russian president. Now the discussions are taking place in a bilateral format.
The dialogue between Aliyev and Pashinyan is considered an important stage in concluding a peace agreement. One of the key topics of discussion was the opening of the Zangezur corridor. This is a transport route about 40 km long, running between Azerbaijan and Nakhichevan through the territory of Armenia. The main contradiction is that Baku insists on the extraterritorial nature of the corridor, while Armenia wants to maintain control over it on its territory.

Billionaire and former Nagorno-Karabakh state minister Ruben Vardanyan, sentenced in Baku to 20 years in prison, rejected the legal force of the ruling and dropped his appeal. His family explained that this decision stemmed from the fact that, in their view, the trial was a "staged performance" rather than a proper trial: the hearings were held behind closed doors, without access to independent observers, and the prosecution's motions were ignored. The full text of the verdict was also not released.
