After being tortured in an Irkutsk pretrial detention center, a native of Chechnya was sentenced to 17 years

The Irkutsk Regional Court issued 12 sentences in the case of the riot of prisoners in IK-15 in Angarsk. Among the defendants is Chechen Khumay Khaidayev, sentenced to 17 years. He and the others were found guilty under Parts 1 and 2 of Article 212 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (mass riots) and Part 3 of Article 321 of the Criminal Code (disorganization of the activities of institutions that ensure isolation from society).

Last year, the Kirov District Court of Irkutsk recognized the actions of security forces in suppressing the riot in the colony in 2020 as legal. According to forensic examinations, bodily injuries were recorded in 417 prisoners.

45-year-old Khumaid Khaidaev received a total of 29 injuries: closed fractures of the phalanges of the fingers, bruises, abrasions, subcutaneous hemorrhages all over the body. He had previously denied charges of organizing a riot, calling on prisoners to harm themselves, and beating an employee of IK-15. According to him, he only had six months left to serve before his release, and on the day of the riots, one of the guards tried to provoke him with questions about religion.

In 2022, a court in Irkutsk upheld the refusal to initiate a criminal case on the torture to which Khumaid Khaidaev was subjected. He was abused in SIZO-1 in Irkutsk, where he was transferred after the suppression of the prisoner riot. The man said that, on the instructions of the prison staff, he was hung by his arms and legs, after which he was beaten and burned with a red-hot metal spoon. Later, doctors recorded fractures of Khaidaev's left toes and right hand, as well as multiple bruises, abrasions and contusions.
