The presidents of Azerbaijan and Italy praised the relations between their countries

A meeting between the presidents of Azerbaijan and Italy, Ilham Aliyev and Sergio Mattarella, took place in Baku. This is the Italian president's second visit to Baku; the first took place seven years ago.

Ilham Aliyev stated that Azerbaijan makes a significant contribution to the energy security of many countries. He emphasized that, thanks to Azerbaijani oil and gas exports to Italy, his country has been able to supply large volumes of natural resources to global markets. He noted that Azerbaijani oil ranks first in Italy's oil balance, and gas ranks second.

He also noted that Italy is Azerbaijan's main trading partner and added that work is currently underway with the EU on electricity exports. Aliyev emphasized the positive changes in relations between the EU and Baku, emphasizing that Italy has always supported the development of these ties.

In turn, Sergio Mattarella noted the high level of relations between the two countries. He said that Italy takes a constructive position regarding the development of relations between Azerbaijan and the EU and expressed confidence that steps will be taken to further strengthen bilateral relations.

Billionaire and former Nagorno-Karabakh state minister Ruben Vardanyan, sentenced in Baku to 20 years in prison, rejected the legal force of the ruling and dropped his appeal. His family explained that this decision stemmed from the fact that, in their view, the trial was a "staged performance" rather than a proper trial: the hearings were held behind closed doors, without access to independent observers, and the prosecution's motions were ignored. The full text of the verdict was also not released.
