Reporters Without Borders: 'Systematic Police Violence' in Georgia
Reporters Without Borders (Reporters sans frontières) has said that there is "systematic police violence" against independent media in Georgia and has called on the EU to take action.

The organisation's report notes that more than 70 media workers have been attacked, some of them repeatedly, while covering protests in Georgia.

The Georgian Dream is a nightmare for democracy and the media that expose its authoritarian actions. The complete impunity of law enforcement agencies and the new laws seriously threaten the right to reliable information... RSF urges the EU to take decisive action and launch an international investigation into the violence against journalists in order to bring those responsible to justice," said Jeanne Cavelier, head of RSF's Eastern Europe and Central Asia desk.

Reporters Without Borders also commented on the latest incidents in Batumi, calling for the immediate release and fair investigation into the circumstances of the detention of the founder and director of the Batumelebi newspaper group Mzia Amaglobeli and the operator of its publications Guram Murvanidze.
