During the annual "Year in Review" press conference, Russian President Vladimir Putin, responding to a question about support for young families, noted the tradition of early marriages in the North Caucasus. He said he believed this was "right" and suggested "following their example," citing Ramzan Kadyrov's large family.
The subjects of the North Caucasus Federal District are traditionally named the regions with the lowest vodka consumption in 2024. The minimum official sales were recorded in Chechnya - 0.05 liters per person (115 times less than the national average). In Ingushetia, the figure was 0.4 liters, in North Ossetia - 1.1 liters, in Kabardino-Balkaria and Dagestan - 1.2 liters, in Karachay-Cherkessia - 1.8 liters.
At the same time, last year, the KBR and North Ossetia saw the greatest increase in vodka sales - +20.8% (up to 1.2 liters per capita) and +18.8% (up to 1.1 liters), respectively. Vodka sold best last year in the Far East and the North.
Sakhalin and Chukotka became the leaders in retail sales of vodka. There the figures were 11.8 and 11.7 liters per capita, respectively. Then, with a small gap, came Karelia (11.2 liters), Komi (10.6 liters) and Magadan Oblast (10.3 liters).
