The North Caucasus has become one of the leaders in sports activities

Residents of the southern regions of Russia and the North Caucasus are recognized as leaders in sports. These are the findings of a study by VTB and Otkritie banks. The least population engages in physical education in the central and Volga regions of the Russian Federation.

Fitness and general physical education are the most popular among Russians: according to surveys, 43% of respondents are involved in them. Cycling and hiking are also leaders - 24% each. Strength training was chosen by 21%, swimming – 19%. 11% are fond of skiing and skating.

Mostly they go in for sports two to three times a week – this was the answer of 21% of respondents. 11% - daily, 12% - at least once a week, 23% admitted that they train once a month or less.

It was previously reported that Chechnya, Dagestan and other regions of the North Caucasus Federal District are leaders in commitment to a healthy lifestyle. When making calculations, experts took into account the proportion of residents involved in sports, consumption of alcohol and tobacco, the number of crimes committed while under the influence of alcohol and drugs, as well as the proportion of people employed in jobs with harmful and dangerous working conditions.
