Security forces seriously wounded a Chechen with British citizenship

In Urus-Martan, employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the FSB shot at a native of Chechnya and British citizen Magomed Abubakarov. He is seriously injured and hospitalized. The man was accused of using violence against a government official and illegal possession of weapons, the Memorial Human Rights Center reported.

According to human rights activists, Abubakarov lived with his parents in Urus-Martan. His house was surrounded by FSB and police officers. Magomed allegedly tried to escape, but they opened fire on him. The man's femur was shattered, and another bullet was lodged in his thigh.

Abubakarov is in hospital under arrest. Security forces also detained several of his relatives, including his mother and two sisters, as well as four residents of Urus-Martan, presumably to testify against the victim.

In May 2023, Magomed Abubakarov came from Great Britain to Urus-Martan to visit his mother. On the night of June 1, he was kidnapped from his home by armed men who identified themselves as employees of the Kurchaloevsky District Department of Internal Affairs. Since then his location has been unknown. After 27 days he was released from an illegal prison.
