Zarema Musaeva's health condition has deteriorated sharply in a Chechen colony

Zarema Musaeva, who is serving time in a penal colony, cannot move even on crutches, her condition has sharply worsened. This was reported by the son of the prisoner, activist Abubakar Yangulbaev.

“My recent interviews on the topic of possible changes in the republic after Kadyrov’s death are cited as the reason for my deteriorating health. Actually, they call me the main culprit. Therefore, I repeat, even today I am ready for an equal exchange with my mother, until she dies there. I didn't start this, and I didn't keep her in prison, but I understand that I bear responsibility. Do it. And stop tormenting an elderly woman with chronic diseases. Moreover, she never touched you and didn’t even want to see you!” Yangulbaev wrote in his Telegram channel.

Recently, Team Against Torture lawyer Alexander Savin received an opinion from a medical commission regarding the health of Zarema Musaeva. In the protocol, her diagnosis was changed: instead of type 2 diabetes with multiple complications diagnosed last year, diabetes without complications was indicated. It is not included in the list of diseases that allow convicts to be released for health reasons.

Previously, a woman held in a Chechen penal colony was diagnosed with cataracts. In early March, the Pyatigorsk Court of Cassation commuted the sentence of Zarema Musaeva from 5 years to 4 years and 9 months in prison. Last year in Grozny, Musayeva was convicted on charges of using violence against a government official.

Let us remind you that on January 20, 2022, police officers from Chechnya came to Nizhny Novgorod and took Musaeva away. After being taken to Grozny, the woman was accused of using force against a police officer. According to investigators, she scratched his face. Zarema Musayeva is the mother of Chechen activists Abubakar, Ibragim and Baysangur Yangulbaev. Human rights activists claim that she was kidnapped as a hostage and convicted of her sons’ opposition activities.
