The Speaker of the Georgian Parliament and the President of the OSCE PA discussed the 2024 elections and the situation in the country

 

OSCE Parliamentary Assembly President Pere Juan Ponzo Sampietro, who arrived in Tbilisi with a delegation, held his first meeting with the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, which he later described as "very good and sincere." He noted that the conversation lasted over an hour. The two sides discussed, among other things, the report on the 2024 parliamentary elections.

During his two-day visit to Georgia, the OSCE PA President also plans to meet with other representatives of the government, the opposition, and civil society.

In turn, Papuashvili thanked the President of the Assembly for her willingness to engage in open dialogue. He stated that during the meeting, special attention was paid to the OSCE ODIHR report on the 2024 parliamentary elections. The Speaker of Parliament emphasized that Georgia remains an active participant in the OSCE and intends to continue cooperating with the organization, including on implementing ODIHR recommendations.

Papuashvili also stated that the OSCE PA delegation began its visit with a tour of the occupation line. According to him, Sampietro reaffirmed his support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The two discussed current political processes in the country and the work of Parliament in recent years. Papuashvili noted that legislative initiatives are being adopted taking into account current events in the country and are aimed at strengthening democratic institutions.
