After 15 years, a previously closed criminal case has been reopened against a resident of Chechnya for an attempt on the lives of security officials
A court in Stavropol will re-examine the Investigative Committee's motion to reopen a criminal case on an attempt on the lives of security officials and illegal arms trafficking. The name of the defendant is not indicated in the materials - it could be a native of Chechnya, Magomed Abubakarov.

The case was closed in Chechnya in February 2010 due to the detainee's non-involvement in committing crimes. However, after 15 years, the trial was reopened by the Main Directorate of the Investigative Committee for the North Caucasus Federal District.

The defense noted that the case is based on questionable documents and the testimony of three secret witnesses. Two of them did not remember the accused at all, nor the circumstances of the assassination attempt itself. We are talking about the explosion of a garbage can, as a result of which servicemen of the internal troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were injured. The third witness only said that the accused allegedly confessed to him that he had committed the crime.

In 2023, Magomed Abubakarov, a British citizen of Chechen origin, came to Urus-Martan on family matters. According to the "Team Against Torture", a few weeks later he was kidnapped by police officers and tortured into confessing to his involvement in the said explosion. Abubakarov was then released, but was soon arrested again. Today, he is being held in a pre-trial detention center.

In an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta, Patrushev said that FSB units "worked professionally," but after the terrorists were eliminated, problems arose with providing medical care to the freed hostages.
