A native of Chechnya appealed the sentence for participation in Basayev's detachment
Ramzan Belyalov, an alleged member of the detachment of field commander Shamil Basayev, appealed his sentence in the Supreme Court.

Belyalov was detained in Gudermes in 2015. The investigation suspects him of participating in the raid of Shamil Basayev's detachment on Budyonnovsk in 1995. Belyalov himself, like his relatives, claims that he was not involved in the attack, since at that time he was working in a construction team in Bashkiria. At that time, the regional newspaper published an article about the work of builders from Chechnya with names and a photograph, in which Belyalov was captured among others.

However, Ramzan Belyalov was charged with participation in a gang (Part 2 of Article 209 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), hostage-taking (Part 2 of Article 126.1 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR), and committing a terrorist act (Part 3 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). In December 2017, the North Caucasus District Military Court sentenced him to 15 years in prison.
