Armenian authorities extend Russian billionaire's jail term
Russian citizen and billionaire Samvel Karapetyan, owner of the Tashir Group, will remain in custody for another 30 days. A Yerevan court has extended his pretrial detention.
Samvel Karapetyan was arrested on June 19 in Yerevan. He was accused of publicly calling for a government takeover in Armenia. Prior to this, the country's Investigative Committee reported that it had foiled an attempted terrorist attack and a coup.
Karapetyan is known as a Russian stooge. From jail, he accused the Armenian authorities of severing ties with Russia, emphasizing that Moscow, as Yerevan's main ally, values reliability, predictability, and honesty.
