In Derbent and Makhachkala, attacks were carried out on churches, a synagogue and a traffic police post

The National Anti-Terrorism Committee clarified the location of the incidents in Dagestan - in Derbent and Makhachkala, an attack was carried out on two Orthodox churches, a synagogue and a traffic police post. According to the republic's Muftiate, the death toll reached nine people, seven of them were law enforcement officers. 25 people were injured.

The Dagestan Ministry of Internal Affairs reports that security forces killed four terrorists who attacked police officers in Makhachkala. A priest was killed during an attack on a church in Derbent. A guard was also shot at a Makhachkala church.

The head of Dagestan Melikov called for calm.

“Tonight in Derbent and Makhachkala, unknown persons made attempts to destabilize the social situation... An operational headquarters has been created, all necessary decisions will be made promptly in the interests of the safety of the residents of the republic,” he wrote in his TG channel.

A source for RBC in the law enforcement agencies of Dagestan suggested that “judging by the actions of the attackers, their cries and appearance, the terrorists belong to an Islamist terrorist organization.”

The publication’s interlocutor also said: “The police are checking information that one of the attackers is the son of the head of the Sergokalinsky district of Dagestan, Magomed Omarov.”

The Baza publication reports about two of Omarov’s sons - Osman and Adil - who, according to preliminary data, were killed. The third participant in the attack in Makhachkala, who was also killed during an arrest attempt, according to Baza, was 32-year-old Abdusamad Amadziev.

State Duma deputy from Dagestan Abdulkhakim Gadzhiev, commenting on today's events, put forward the most popular operational version that the authorities are accustomed to using. “There is no doubt that these terrorist attacks are in one way or another connected with the intelligence services of Ukraine and NATO countries. Against the backdrop of the successes of our troops in the Northern Military District zone, this is an attempt to shake up the situation in our country from the inside. Of course, this is a terrorist attack under the guise of pseudo-religious slogans. Law enforcement agencies have enough forces and resources. The situation in the republic is under control,” Gadzhiev is confident.
