European Union Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas stated that the Georgian government's current policies are not aligned with the European Union's direction. Arriving at the EU summit in Brussels, she emphasized the EU's support for the Georgian people but expressed disagreement with the Georgian government's actions. Kallas stated that the country's leadership is leading Georgia "in the wrong direction," which is hindering the process of European integration.
Georgia announces large-scale protest action "Chain of Unity"
A large-scale protest action will take place in several cities of Georgia at 15:00 on December 28, the SOVA Telegram channel reports. The demonstrators will form a human chain - the so-called "chain of unity".
Civil activist Dodi Kharkheli on her Facebook page called on fellow citizens, in particular initiative groups, associations, communities, marketers, content creators, etc., to support the action. "Let's stand next to each other, and be everywhere!" she writes.
The activist noted that "they [the authorities] are frantically looking for leaders and heads of these actions, but we ourselves are all these leaders and heads." She suggests choosing any location, discussing the details online, and then meeting at a specific place.
Let us recall that on September 1, 2008, a public action "Live Chain" was held in the capital and regions of Georgia under the slogan "Stop Russia!", in which about half a million local residents took part. Citizens gathered on almost all the main streets of Tbilisi, holding hands, to express unity against the backdrop of the occupation of Georgia by Russia. The then President Mikheil Saakashvili, who also stood in the live chain, addressed the people and called on the European community to take Tbilisi's side. According to him, the action became the largest in the history of Georgia.
