Protests demanding new elections and the release of detainees continue in Georgia and beyond
More than a dozen pro-European protests are planned for the weekend in Tbilisi and other Georgian cities. On the 52nd day of protests, the main demand of their participants remains unchanged - holding new parliamentary elections. In addition, protesters are demanding the release of all "prisoners of the regime" arrested during anti-government protests. Let us recall that, according to human rights activists, there are more than 50 of them.

Among the announced protests are the "March against the police regime" in the Nadzaladevi district of Tbilisi at 14:00, the "March for Freedom with a Tiger Skin" at the Rustaveli monument in the center of Tbilisi under slogans and quotes from Shota Rustaveli at 18:00, the traditional general rally at the Parliament of Georgia and another protest at the office of the Public Broadcaster at 19:00.

In addition, this weekend, Georgian migrants will hold protests in 24 cities in nine countries. The diaspora in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, the Czech Republic, Austria, Australia and the United States will support the protests in Georgia.

Rallies demanding new elections have been held in Georgia since the end of October. They flared up with renewed vigor in Tbilisi, Batumi, Kutaisi and other cities after the Georgian authorities announced the suspension of the country's European integration process until 2028.

In 2025, residents of the North Caucasus regions consumed the least amount of hard liquor in Russia. The lowest official retail sales figures were recorded in Chechnya (0.01 liters per capita). Other republics of the North Caucasus Federal District also demonstrated modest figures: Ingushetia - 0.7 liters, Dagestan - 2.2 liters, Kabardino-Balkaria - 2.6 liters, North Ossetia - 3 liters, and Karachay-Cherkessia - 3.4 liters. Experts attribute this decline to the prevalence of cultural and religious restrictions, as well as a preference for low-alcohol beverages.
