The birth rate in the Karachay-Cherkessia Republic has been falling for the fifth year

In 2024, 4,399 children were born in Karachay-Cherkessia. This demographic indicator has been declining for the fifth year already.

According to the report of the Commissioner for Children's Rights in Karachay-Cherkessia, 5,118 people were born in 2020, 4,507 in 2021, 4,429 in 2022, and 4,413 in 2023. The year 2024 was marked by the lowest number of newborns in five years.

In addition, 50 children died in the Karachay-Cherkessia Republic last year, 17 of whom were under one year of age. Most often, the causes of infant mortality are congenital malformations, and in the structure of child mortality (aged 1 to 17 years) - various diseases.

Rosstat recently classified data on birth and death rates, as well as the number of marriages and divorces. Now it publishes only one table with the summed-up results since the beginning of the year. According to demographer Alexei Raksha, who was declared a foreign agent, this is a reaction to the failure of the government's demographic programs. The concealment of data occurred against the backdrop of record low birth rates in 200 years, as well as an increase in mortality.
