A major fire continues in the Karachay-Cherkess Republic

A forest fire is being extinguished in the Gonachkhir gorge, located near the Dombay resort, in the Karachay-Cherkess Republic.

“The situation remains difficult, but is under control,” said Dmitry Pomogaibo, acting head of the republican emergency department. According to him, the fire has spread to 15 hectares due to heat, dryness and strong wind.

The distance from the fire site to the nearest settlement, the village of Dombay, is about 7 km. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, there is no threat to the residents of the village. By the morning of August 23, rescuers had evacuated 43 children and 193 adults from the fire zone, and a temporary accommodation center was set up in the village of Dombay.
