Russia expresses concern over possible arms supplies to Ukraine from Azerbaijan

Against the backdrop of reports that Azerbaijan may lift the embargo on arms supplies to Ukraine, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexei Fadeyev said that Moscow believes that such actions do not contribute to a peaceful resolution of the conflict.

This statement followed media reports linking Azerbaijan's potential decision with recent attacks by Russian troops on energy infrastructure belonging to the Azerbaijani company SOCAR in Ukraine. In particular, the attack on an oil depot in the Odessa region, which resulted in a fire and injuries to employees, as well as on a gas distribution station near Orlovka, which is key for the supply of Azerbaijani gas to Ukraine, is mentioned.

Azerbaijan continues to provide humanitarian aid to Ukraine. Ukrainian Ambassador to Baku Yuriy Gusev announced the provision of another aid package, including electrical equipment worth $2 million, intended for the restoration of energy infrastructure. He stressed that this is the second such package in 2025 and expressed gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev and the government of Azerbaijan for their consistent support. The total amount of humanitarian aid provided by Azerbaijan to Ukraine since the beginning of the "CBO" is $44 million.

Billionaire and former Nagorno-Karabakh state minister Ruben Vardanyan, sentenced in Baku to 20 years in prison, rejected the legal force of the ruling and dropped his appeal. His family explained that this decision stemmed from the fact that, in their view, the trial was a "staged performance" rather than a proper trial: the hearings were held behind closed doors, without access to independent observers, and the prosecution's motions were ignored. The full text of the verdict was also not released.
