Russia says normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan was achieved thanks to Putin

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said that Russia's contribution to the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan is difficult to overestimate, stressing that the current stage of this process began with the active participation of Russia and Vladimir Putin personally. Zakharova recalled the trilateral agreements reached in 2020-2022 with the participation of Moscow, which, according to her, stopped the bloodshed and defined the main directions of the peace process.

Russia expects to continue the dialogue with Armenia on the issue of unblocking communications. Zakharova noted that understanding the functioning of the "Trump route" is possible after familiarizing herself with the details of the project. She also pointed out factors that need to be taken into account: Armenia's membership in the EAEU, control over the Armenian railway network by the South Caucasus Railways company (a subsidiary of Russian Railways), and border protection by Russian border guards in the area of the proposed route.

Billionaire and former Nagorno-Karabakh state minister Ruben Vardanyan, sentenced in Baku to 20 years in prison, rejected the legal force of the ruling and dropped his appeal. His family explained that this decision stemmed from the fact that, in their view, the trial was a "staged performance" rather than a proper trial: the hearings were held behind closed doors, without access to independent observers, and the prosecution's motions were ignored. The full text of the verdict was also not released.
