During the annual "Year in Review" press conference, Russian President Vladimir Putin, responding to a question about support for young families, noted the tradition of early marriages in the North Caucasus. He said he believed this was "right" and suggested "following their example," citing Ramzan Kadyrov's large family.
The ombudsman of North Ossetia Tamerlan Tsgoev called for a review of the refusal to initiate a criminal case against the Ministry of Internal Affairs officers accused of torture. He sent an appeal to the acting prosecutor of the republic and the head of the regional Investigative Committee with a demand to review the decision on the case of Batraz Gogaev.
The text notes that the investigation did not request recordings from cameras, did not conduct independent psychophysical studies and ignored eyewitness testimony. According to the ombudsman, the decision to refuse to initiate a criminal case is unmotivated.
Earlier, Batraz Gogaev, a resident of Vladikavkaz, said that he was taken outside the city by officers of the Center for Combating Extremism of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the republic. According to the man, he was forced to confess to crimes he did not commit under torture using electric current.
