A case against two alleged members of the Basayev and Khattab detachments has been brought to court

A criminal case against two men has been transferred to the Southern District Military Court. They are accused of attacking military personnel in the Botlikh region in 1999 during the second Russian-Chechen war.

According to investigators, the accused, as part of the detachments of field commanders Shamil Basayev and Khattab, attacked federal servicemen in August 1999 on the outskirts of the village of Rakhata, Botlikh district of Dagestan.
The defendants are accused under Part 2 of Article 209 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (banditry), Art. 279 (armed rebellion) and art. 317 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (attack on the life of a law enforcement officer).

According to human rights activists, the criminal cases regarding participation in the detachments of Basayev and Khattab are of the same type, with the same witnesses, often secret.
