In 2025, residents of the North Caucasus regions consumed the least amount of hard liquor in Russia. The lowest official retail sales figures were recorded in Chechnya (0.01 liters per capita). Other republics of the North Caucasus Federal District also demonstrated modest figures: Ingushetia - 0.7 liters, Dagestan - 2.2 liters, Kabardino-Balkaria - 2.6 liters, North Ossetia - 3 liters, and Karachay-Cherkessia - 3.4 liters. Experts attribute this decline to the prevalence of cultural and religious restrictions, as well as a preference for low-alcohol beverages.
A "mask campaign" took place on Rustaveli Avenue in Tbilisi
The so-called "mask action" took place near the parliament building in the capital of Georgia. Demonstrators protested against the ban on the use of face coverings, including medical masks, during peaceful assemblies, introduced at the end of last year. Georgian Dream introduced the corresponding amendment to the law in an accelerated manner. Violation of this rule is subject to a fine of 2,000 GEL.
Human rights activists regarded the ban as a violation of the right to peaceful assembly, and doctors said that the taboo on the use of medical masks is unacceptable in the midst of the SARS season.
In addition, a Christmas event has been announced on Facebook - protesters will gather on Rustaveli Avenue on the night of January 6 to 7.
"Christmas without a friend is unthinkable. Let's flow through the streets like rivers of the world and celebrate Christmas together in Kashveta," the announcement says.
Christmas events will also be held in Batumi, Kutaisi and Zugdida.
A week earlier, a large-scale New Year's meeting was held in Tbilisi at the same place. The fifth president of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, who does not recognize the legitimacy of the government and her successor, celebrated the holiday together with the people.
