Georgian citizen Georgiy Kinoyan, previously detained while crossing the Armenian border, has been released from custody. Russian authorities had sought his extradition.
According to Georgiy Tumasyan, Chairman of the Armenian Community Platform of Georgia, Kinoyan has been released. The extradition process has been canceled because it could have posed a threat to his life and health.
Georgiy Kinoyan was detained on September 3 at the border between Armenia and Georgia on charges of participating in hostilities against Russia on the Ukrainian side. According to the Russian side, in 2024, he was sentenced in absentia to seven years in prison for participating in the "Georgian Legion" of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
