The Armenian authorities took into account the risk of extradition to Russia of a refugee from Chechnya

A trial has begun in Yerevan on the possible extradition of Salman Mukayev, a refugee from Chechnya, to Russia. His lawyer said that in the event of deportation, the client would be in mortal danger and human rights would be violated in Chechnya. As a result, the court requested additional documents confirming the persecution of Mukaev in his homeland.

The hearings were attended by dozens of emigrants from Russia, as well as human rights activists. They expressed their support for the refugee.

At the beginning of 2021, Mukaev was tortured in Chechnya by security forces due to suspicions of non-traditional sexual orientation. However, human rights activists noted that these accusations are false. Then the man managed to leave for Armenia. But because of being put on the wanted list in Russia, the Armenian authorities refuse to let him go to Europe, where they are ready to provide the Chechen with political asylum.
