The Orenburg Regional Court has begun hearing the state prosecution's appeal in the 6-million-ruble bribe case involving former senator Rauf Arashukov. If the EU wants to reduce political polarization in Georgia and calm the situation, it will grant the country the status of candidate. Irakli Kobakhidze, chairman of the ruling party «Georgian Dream» expressed such opinion.
He added that it is in the interests of the radical opposition that Georgia not be granted this status. «They directly expect that in December the EU will again make an unjust decision and they will use it to create chaos and change power», Kobakhidze said.
The European Parliament believes that Georgia may be eligible for EU membership, even if the 12 recommendations are not fully implemented. The 2024 elections and their preparatory period will play an important role in this process, and the EU will monitor compliance with all norms.
