During the annual "Year in Review" press conference, Russian President Vladimir Putin, responding to a question about support for young families, noted the tradition of early marriages in the North Caucasus. He said he believed this was "right" and suggested "following their example," citing Ramzan Kadyrov's large family.
During the attack in Derbent and Makhachkala on June 23, 15 law enforcement officers were killed and another 17 were injured. At least two civilian casualties are also known: 66-year-old Father Nikolai from a church in Derbent and a security guard from a church in Makhachkala.
After the terrorist attack, the Intercession Church in Derbent and the Holy Assumption Cathedral in Makhachkala, as well as the Kele-Numaz synagogue in Derbent, were burned.
Five attackers were killed: three in Makhachkala, two in Derbent. Two of them are the sons of the head of the Sergokalinsky district of Dagestan, Magomed Omarov: Osman and Adil Omarov. Another one is his nephew. The fourth is MMA fighter Gadzhimurad Kagirov.
June 24, 25 and 26 have been declared days of mourning in Dagestan. During a meeting of the operational headquarters after the incidents, the head of Dagestan, Sergei Melikov, said that the active phase of operational combat activities in Makhachkala and Derbent had been completed and the situation had been brought under control.
