An international conference entitled "The Circassian Genocide in the Context of History and Contemporary Politics" was held in the Seimas of Lithuania, organized by the United Circassian Council.
Lawyers from the "Team Against Torture" reported that Zarema Musayeva was hospitalized from the penal colony to the day hospital of the Chechen Republican Endocrinology Dispensary. This happened more than a month after she complained about her health deteriorating.
Zarema Musayeva has insulin-dependent diabetes type 2. In May, she was treated in the day hospital, and in June, in the final protocol, her diagnosis was changed to one that does not allow her to be released from prison due to health reasons.
Today, Musayeva's appeal against the denial of parole was supposed to be considered. The woman was not brought to court due to hospitalization, and the hearing was postponed until November 12.
Earlier, the European Court awarded Zarema Musayeva and her family compensation for inhuman treatment and threats from the Chechen authorities. In early March, the Pyatigorsk Cassation Court reduced the woman's sentence from 5 years to 4 years and 9 months in prison. Last year, she was convicted in Grozny on charges of using violence against a government official.
Recall that on January 20, 2022, police officers from Chechnya arrived in Nizhny Novgorod and took Musayeva. After being brought to Grozny, the woman was accused of using force against a police officer. Allegedly, she scratched his face.
Zarema Musayeva is the mother of Chechen activists Abubakar, Ibrahim, and Baysangur Yangulbaev. Human rights activists claim that she was kidnapped as a hostage and convicted for her sons' opposition activities.
