During the annual "Year in Review" press conference, Russian President Vladimir Putin, responding to a question about support for young families, noted the tradition of early marriages in the North Caucasus. He said he believed this was "right" and suggested "following their example," citing Ramzan Kadyrov's large family.
Zarema Musayeva Remains in Custody
The Supreme Court of Chechnya has remanded Zarema Musayeva, accused of disrupting the activities of a prison colony (Part 2 of Article 321 of the Criminal Code), in custody until February 24. This was reported by the "Team Against Torture".
According to investigators, Zarema Musayeva hit an FSIN officer who accompanied her on trips to the hospital and tore off his shoulder strap. The defendant denies all charges against her. In addition, she has been moving around for a long time only with the help of crutches due to a serious illness.
Zarema Musayeva is the wife of former federal judge Saidi Yangulbaev and the mother of Chechen activists Ibragim, Baysangur and Abubakar Yangulbaev. In early March 2024, the Pyatigorsk Court of Cassation reduced her sentence on the previous charge, reducing her prison term from 5 years to 4 years and 9 months. In July 2023, a court in Grozny found the woman guilty of using violence against a police officer and fraud and sentenced her to five years in prison. Investigators believe that she scratched the face of a police officer from Chechnya during her transfer from Nizhny Novgorod to Grozny.
