Residents of Chechnya and Adygea fined for criticizing the war in Ukraine

The Mozdok City Court of North Ossetia ordered Ruslan Reshidov of Chechnya to pay a fine of 30 thousand rubles. His words in a public place were considered «discrediting» of the Russian Armed Forces.

Ruslan Reshidov is a pensioner who lives in Chechnya but is registered at an address in North Ossetia. According to the investigation, he was informed. Allegedly during the conflict with employees of the firm, he criticised the war in Ukraine. In court, the man said that he meant the civilian population suffering from the war.

Meanwhile, in Adygea also for «discrediting» of the Army of the Russian Federation fined therapist Madina Tedeev. According to the police, she posted a number of anti-war comments on Instagram.

The Anna Politkovskaya Award has this year been given to 11 Russian and five Ukrainian female journalists who are imprisoned in Russia and in the occupied territories of Ukraine.

 

According to the award’s founder, the international organisation RAW in WAR (Reach All Women in WAR), the nominations committee praised the “courage and integrity” of the laureates, who “risk their freedom and even their lives to report on the war and speak out against human rights violations, war crimes and the escalating repression of journalists, human rights defenders and anti-war activists in Russia”.
