Georgia's fifth president, Salome Zurabishvili, commented on the release in Yerevan of Georgi Kinoyan, who was detained while crossing the Georgian-Armenian border.
"Armenia demonstrates that protecting human rights is important. Georgian soldier Georgi Kinoyan was released after Armenia rejected Russia's extradition request. A strong step towards a European future focused on human rights," Zurabishvili wrote.
An Armenian court recently released Georgian citizen Georgi Kinoyan, who fought on the Ukrainian side. He was detained in early September. In October 2024, Russia placed Kinoyan on the international wanted list and sentenced him in absentia to seven years in prison.
