Zurabishvili called for preventing Russian dominance in the Black Sea

Georgia must be admitted to the European Union to avoid Russian domination of the Black Sea. This was stated by the country's President Salome Zurabishvili at the Munich Security Conference.

According to her, for Georgia, EU membership is security and the only prospect for a country that shares European values from the point of view of civilization. Zurabishvili also called for preventing Russia from becoming an exclusive power in the Black Sea region.

“What Moscow is doing now was actually announced in 2007 - that it will not allow the West to enter the Black Sea region. In 2008, events took place in Georgia, followed by Crimea, again the Black Sea region and the war in Ukraine,” said the Georgian president.

Earlier, speaking in the Georgian parliament, Salome Zurabishvili reported that the Russian Federation continues to wage a hybrid war against the country, using new formats. “Russia’s plan to transform the Ochamchira port in Abkhazia into a military base aims to transfer the confrontation to the Black Sea, to our territorial waters. Moscow also announced military mobilization in the occupied territories of Abkhazia and South Ossetia,” Zurabishvili noted.
