Azerbaijan to Increase Gas Supplies to Turkey
Azerbaijan and Turkey have signed a new agreement to supply 33 billion cubic meters of natural gas from the Absheron field in the Caspian Sea. Shipments, totaling 2.25 billion cubic meters per year, will begin in 2029 and continue until the 2040s via the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum pipeline.
This agreement was signed in addition to Georgia's plans to extend its contract for gas supplies from Azerbaijan, which expires in 2026. It provides for an additional 0.5 billion cubic meters per year.
Georgia's annual natural gas consumption is 3.1 billion cubic meters. In 2024, the country imported 2.3 billion cubic meters from Azerbaijan, while supplies from Russia totaled 788 million cubic meters, an increase compared to previous periods.
