Chechnya, Dagestan and Ingushetia named the most sober regions

According to a study by the Sober Russia movement, in 2023 the most non-drinking regions were Chechnya, Dagestan and Ingushetia. They are followed by Karachay-Cherkessia and Kabardino-Balkaria. In 2022, the first five lines of the ranking were occupied by these same republics.

Outsiders in the sobriety rating are Buryatia, Chukotka Autonomous Okrug, Kurgan and Sakhalin regions, Altai. Moscow took 13th place in the ranking, and St. Petersburg – 18th.

When compiling the rating, several indicators were taken into account, including the number of deaths from alcohol poisoning and the number of residents with diagnosed alcoholism, the regional volume of alcohol sold and the number of offenses related to the illegal production and trafficking of ethyl alcohol.
