February 23, 1944, marked a dark date in the history of two peoples of the North Caucasus: on the orders of Joseph Stalin, the total deportation of the Chechens and Ingush began. Half a million people were forcibly uprooted from their homes and sent into exile in Central Asia and Siberia.
The People's Assembly of Ingushetia adopted the republic's 2026 budget with a record deficit of 843 million rubles. This is 467 million rubles higher than last year's figure.
A draft law published by the republic's Ministry of Finance shows that budget expenditures will amount to 42.7 billion rubles, while revenues will amount to 41.9 billion rubles.
The actual gap between revenues and expenditures in Ingushetia's budget is trending upward. In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the planned deficit of 66 million rubles ultimately exceeded 400 million rubles. This year, even before accounting for the last two months, the deficit is 10 times higher than planned, without taking into account any major unforeseen expenses.
The economic situation in Ingushetia remains challenging. The region regularly ranks last in various rankings and is characterized by low levels of capital housing repairs, low socio-economic development indicators, high unemployment, and low levels of well-being.
