During the annual "Year in Review" press conference, Russian President Vladimir Putin, responding to a question about support for young families, noted the tradition of early marriages in the North Caucasus. He said he believed this was "right" and suggested "following their example," citing Ramzan Kadyrov's large family.
The Memorial Human Rights Center has published a bulletin titled "North Caucasus: View of Human Rights Defenders". It is mainly devoted to the participation of formations and people from the North Caucasian republics in Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
According to the Memorial Center, the mobilization announced on September 21, 2022 was met in the North Caucasus "without enthusiasm." It provoked protests in a number of republics. The situation in Chechnya is unchanged: "the lack of rights of the population and the omnipotence of Kadyrov's security forces." At the same time, the role of "Kadyrov's" military units on the fronts of the war in Ukraine is still insignificant and greatly exaggerated. Many people from the North Caucasus are fighting on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, especially from Chechnya and Dagestan.
