Moscow notes a twofold reduction in trade turnover with Armenia and is blocking its companies

At the Eastern Economic Forum, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk predicted a halving of trade turnover with Armenia in 2025.

According to his estimates, if in 2024 the figure reached 12.4 billion dollars, then this year it is expected to fall to 6 billion. In the first half of this year, the volume of trade amounted to only $3.4 billion, which is two times less than in the same period last year.

Against this background, it is reported that more than 100 trucks of the largest Armenian transport and forwarding company "Spayka" have not been able to enter the territory of the Russian Federation for several days. Russian law enforcement agencies stop the vehicles without any official explanation.

The Armenian newspaper Hraparak suggests that Moscow's actions against the company may have a political background. According to the publication, the director of Spayka has recently been regularly meeting with the US Ambassador to Yerevan, and these meetings are widely covered in the media, which is likely to cause discontent on the Russian side.

“Blocking trucks for a long period of time could seriously harm not only the company, but also Armenian agricultural producers, creating significant difficulties for exporting products,” the article says.

Billionaire and former Nagorno-Karabakh state minister Ruben Vardanyan, sentenced in Baku to 20 years in prison, rejected the legal force of the ruling and dropped his appeal. His family explained that this decision stemmed from the fact that, in their view, the trial was a "staged performance" rather than a proper trial: the hearings were held behind closed doors, without access to independent observers, and the prosecution's motions were ignored. The full text of the verdict was also not released.
