Putin noted the need to normalize relations with Baku

Russian President Vladimir Putin came to the conclusion that Moscow and Baku should move towards normalizing bilateral relations. He stated this at a press conference following his visit to China, TASS reports.

According to the Russian leader, during events in Beijing dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, he briefly spoke with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and his wife.

"There are problems, but today President Aliyev and I greeted each other, I greeted him and his wife. We exchanged a few words," Putin shared.

Commenting on the state of diplomacy between the two countries, the head of the Kremlin emphasized that in international politics, questions inevitably arise related to current circumstances or the situation. At the same time, he expressed confidence that the solid foundation of Russian-Azerbaijani relations and mutual interest in their development will help smooth out all contradictions.

Billionaire and former Nagorno-Karabakh state minister Ruben Vardanyan, sentenced in Baku to 20 years in prison, rejected the legal force of the ruling and dropped his appeal. His family explained that this decision stemmed from the fact that, in their view, the trial was a "staged performance" rather than a proper trial: the hearings were held behind closed doors, without access to independent observers, and the prosecution's motions were ignored. The full text of the verdict was also not released.
