Natives of Dagestan left sentences despite torture and falsification

The Supreme Court of Russia upheld the sentence of four natives of Dagestan, who were previously given terms of imprisonment from 15 to 17 years. Jamaludin Tazhudinov, Tazhudin Tazhudinov, Khabib Gadzhiev and Alimagomed Sheikhov were found guilty of teaching terrorist activities, participating in an illegal armed formation, and encroachment on the lives of security officials. They claimed torture and self-incrimination.

According to the court, Hajiyev until November 2015 participated in the international terrorist organization ISIS in Syria. Then he returned home and created an illegal armed formation with other defendants. Hajiyev's defense stated that the court unreasonably refused to interrogate Turkish citizens who would confirm his absence in Syria. During the arrest, he was also tortured and forced to sign pre-prepared protocols.

The other defendants also confirmed that during the investigation they confessed under torture.
