The number of apartments purchased by Russians in Georgia has increased

Over the 11 months of 2023, Russians purchased 5,784 apartments in Georgia, which is 360 more than in the entire last year. Deputy Minister of Finance of Georgia Georgiy Kakauridze said in parliament that he does not see a problem or threat in the fact that Russians are buying real estate in the country.

In addition to housing, the number of land plots purchased by Russians in Georgia has also increased. This year they bought 1,872 plots, while in 2022 - 1,625.

According to the Ministry of Justice of Georgia, from February 2022 to November 2023, 15,506 citizens of the Russian Federation applied for a residence permit in the country. The applications of 9,021 people were satisfied, 5,156 were rejected.

Earlier, the opposition “Lelo” introduced for discussion in parliament the “Act on the Protection of Georgia” - clauses limiting the rights of Russians and Russian businesses in Georgia. However, the ruling Georgian Dream refused to consider the initiative.
