Moscow attempted to refute the Azerbaijani President's claims of targeted strikes on the embassy in Kyiv

Russian authorities have responded to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's claims of targeted strikes on the Azerbaijani embassy in Kyiv. The Russian Foreign Ministry expressed "bewilderment" over Aliyev's remarks, made at the Munich Security Conference.

In his speech, the Azerbaijani President emphasized that the attack occurred even after the exact coordinates of the diplomatic mission had been communicated to the Russian side. However, Moscow cited previously provided "clarifications," expressing regret over the damage. The Russian side insists that the damage could have been caused by a Ukrainian Patriot missile. The Foreign Ministry emphasized that when planning strikes, Russian forces "take into account the location of diplomatic facilities" and rule out intentional damage.

The day before, Ilham Aliyev stated that Russia was striking not only Ukraine's energy infrastructure but also the Azerbaijani embassy, calling these attacks targeted.

"Our embassy in Ukraine was hit three times. After the first, we thought it might have been an accident. Then we gave the Russian side the coordinates of our diplomatic missions: the consular department, the cultural center, and the embassy. Despite this, two more strikes followed. This is a targeted attack on Azerbaijan's diplomatic missions," Aliyev said.

He also recalled that in response, Baku "issued special statements" and a note of protest was handed to the Russian ambassador.
