Zurabishvili to the President of Moldova: Pro-European Georgia is with you!

Georgia's fifth President, Salome Zurabishvili, congratulated Moldovan President Maia Sandu on her party's victory in the parliamentary elections held on September 28.

"Bravo! Your victory is the best news for Europe, for democracy, and a powerful response to Russia and its hybrid war. Pro-European Georgia is with you, and its resistance to Russian interference will not weaken!" the politician wrote on social media.

According to Moldova's Central Election Commission, with 98.42% of the votes counted, the country's ruling Action and Solidarity party is leading the parliamentary elections, receiving over 50% of the vote.

Earlier, commenting on the parliamentary elections in Moldova, Zurabishvili expressed confidence that "Russia's hybrid war will not succeed" and noted that Georgia is also "fighting for democracy and Europe."

In the run-up to the elections, Western media reported that a Moldovan parliament controlled by the Action and Solidarity Party (ASP) would help the country join the European Union, while any other outcome would turn these efforts into a protracted political struggle.

The Kyiv-based Ukrainian Prism Center, for its part, offered an expert assessment of the situation.

"Even the formation of a coalition with moderately pro-Russian forces will inevitably slow down European integration reforms. Such a power structure could transform progress into a series of compromises that will erode the country's strategic course," the organization's report stated.

The text noted that a similar reversal had occurred in Georgia in recent years.

Billionaire and former Nagorno-Karabakh state minister Ruben Vardanyan, sentenced in Baku to 20 years in prison, rejected the legal force of the ruling and dropped his appeal. His family explained that this decision stemmed from the fact that, in their view, the trial was a "staged performance" rather than a proper trial: the hearings were held behind closed doors, without access to independent observers, and the prosecution's motions were ignored. The full text of the verdict was also not released.
