18 years ago, Aslan Maskhadov was killed

On March 8, 2005, President of the Chechen Republic Ichkeria Aslan Maskhadov died in the village of Tolstoy-yurt.  During the special operation, he was killed by officers of the Russian Federal Security Service.

Today, the Balkar people recall the 79-year-old Stalin deportation. On March 8, 1944, 37,000 people, mostly elderly people, women and children, were deported to Kazakhstan and Central Asia. In March 1, 1944, Kazakhstan and Central Asia were expelled. Almost 40 per cent of them did not return home after rehabilitation.

According to the local Ministry of Internal Affairs, about 50 employees of the department were injured. Several of them required surgery. Demonstrators in Tbilisi damaged cars, special equipment, set fire to the Parliament building, broke windows and broke security fences.

On March 7, the Fifth Court of Cassation in Pyatigorsk overturned the verdict of the Leninsky Court of Vladikavkaz against ten Ossetian police officers convicted of torture and the death of detainee Vladimir Tskaev. The case will be returned for a new trial. However, only four of the defendants will remain in custody.

The Fifth Court of Cassation annulled the decisions of the first instance in the case of the murder of Vladimir Tskayev, a resident of Vladikavkaz, by the police. The materials were submitted for new consideration. The cassation was filed by the defence of former policemen sentenced to real terms.
